Jackie Shapiro takes a fun, playful leap into quiltmaking fabrics with two new collections for Windham Fabrics
JERSEY CITY, NJ. - Remaining true to her reputation for vivid colors and bold graphics, designer Jackie Shapiro has designed two exciting new lines of fabrics for Windham Fabrics - Modern Grace and Play.
"We are very excited that Jackie has joined our already impressive list of of fabric designers," remarked president Mickey Krueger. "Plus, Jackie's collections offer us an opportunity to explore an entirely new direction for Windham Fabrics, adding a focus to contemporary quilters in addition to our already established audience of traditional reproduction fabric enthusiasts."
Modern Grace features a sophisticated two-tone elegance accented by brilliant brights for a dramatic statement. The Play collection offers larger-than-life colorful blooms mixed with zig-zags, plaids, stripes and dots for a wonderful explosion of color. Both lines are sure to delight quilters and crafters alike.
Jackie Shapiro launched her design career after graduating from Parson's School of Design. Her first job landed her in Italy, working for Milan's innovative fashion house Fiorucci, where she began to develop her bold and graphic, pop culture style. Returning to New York, she began freelancing for Tommy Hillfiger, and later went on to design for Itokin, one of Japan's largest fashion manufacturers. Jackie began her own children's fashion collection, "Izzy", known for it's stylized mix of pattern and color, and featured in top stores such as Henri Bendel's, Saks and Fred Segal.
Mattel Inc. has commissioned Jackie's talents since 1997 for many of their Barbie products. She also works closely with Cartoon Network's consumer products division on the Power Puff Girls and Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi brands. French Bull, a contemporary melamine housewares brand and Tepper Jackson, a pajama and bag collection, are Jackie's most recent transition into designing for the home and accessory markets.
