Mary Koval Teams up with the National Museum of the American Coverlet for her newest line, "The Coverlet Collection"
JERSEY CITY, NJ. - Combining beautiful design with American tradition, Windham Fabrics' newest line from Mary Koval, The Coverlet Collection, c. 1820-1860, is a wonderful expression of tribute to the historical importance of the American coverlet.
Teaming up with The National Museum of the American Coverlet, Mary has carefully selected designs from the museum's most prized acquisitions and transformed them into a stunning collection of oversized prints and large patterns, along with rich textures and important small filler prints. This uniquely American collection also promotes the Museum's philosophy of devoting itself to the woven coverlet and its history, art and craft, along with its dedication to introducing the public to their colorful textural beauty. The detailed engravings of The Coverlet Collection offer the same dimensional look as the original coverlet inspirations.
Coverlets, both functional and artistic, are generally used to cover a bed. German and British immigrants are credited with introducing coverlet weaving to the United States. Many weavers were farmers who produced coverlets during the winter months while they waited to return to their occupation during the rest of the year. A good deal of them signed their work with their name, date and place, preserving the history of the piece.
